IN-FIRMITAS: RPBW at the Venice Biennale of Architecture

a poster for an event called exploring the future of healing architecture

On May 9th, Mark Carroll and Raffaella Parodi participated in IN-FIRMITAS, a podium and dialogue organized by ENAH as part of the Venice Biennale of Architecture 2025.

Hosted at the Scuola Grande dei Carmini in Venice, the event brought together international voices to discuss the future of healthcare environments through architecture and innovation.

Mark Carroll and Raffaella Parodi presented RPBW’s design approach to healthcare projects, focusing on the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Global Health Initiative (GHI). This initiative, in collaboration with Betaplan, reflects a shared vision to deliver a new generation of public hospitals in Greece, designed for equity, sustainability, and excellence in care.

The SNF General Hospitals of Komotini and Sparta, along with the SNF University Pediatric Hospital of Thessaloniki, will form a network of state-of-the-art facilities serving under-resourced regions. Designed in collaboration with the Greek National Health System, these hospitals aim to provide universal, high-quality medical care while setting new standards in user-centered, environmentally responsive hospital design.

The dialogue highlighted how interdisciplinary collaboration and long-term architectural thinking can shape healthcare infrastructure for generations to come.
