Simon Texier, Le Tribunal de Paris: Renzo Piano Building Workshop

Archibooks / 2018

Located at the northern edge of Paris, the new Tribunal de Paris is more than a judicial facility, it is a civic landmark. Designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop and inaugurated in 2018, the building redefines the traditional image of the courthouse, moving away from neoclassical gravitas toward a language of lightness, verticality, and openness.

In this book, architectural historian Simon Texier offers a detailed reading of the project, placing it within the broader context of contemporary judicial architecture. Through analytical essays, drawings, and photographs, he highlights the building's integration into the urban fabric, the clarity of its internal organization, and the symbolic weight carried by its architectural choices.

From the stratified composition of its volumes to the transparency of its public spaces, the Tribunal de Paris embodies RPBW’s ongoing exploration of architecture as a public and ethical act. This monograph invites readers to reflect on how architecture can support the values of justice, accessibility, and civic presence.
