Aurora Place, office and residential buildings

Sydney / Australia

Aurora Place, a pair of towers for office and residential use respectively, is sited next to the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney.

The towers are connected at ground level by a piazza that is sheltered under a suspended glass canopy. The office tower is 200m tall with 44 storeys, yielding a total floor area of 49,000 sq m. The residential tower is smaller, having only 17 storeys.

The building facade is made of a special screen-printed glass that incorporates cream-coloured ceramic particles and reflects the sun’s rays. This glass covering extends 30m across the building to create an enormous, and slightly curved, triangular ‘sail’. The roof is inclined at an angle of 43 degrees to avoid shading the adjacent park.
